Aloha

Reducing MCC’s green house gas emissions is another task the club will focus on by working towards energy efficiency. Organic gardening is so essential to the health of Maui and an important ideal to strive for on campus. In this capacity the MCC Sustainability Club will collaborate with the Sustainability Department, the Agriculture Department, Maintenance staff, and most importantly the students.

By engaging and providing resources to the students of Maui Community College, the Sustainability Club will make the campus a model for the community and the nation.

Some great projects include biodiesel from waste vegetable oil, renewable energy, green living, organic gardening. If you are interested in growing food with the organic garden at Maui Community College please contact Kevin Kovach at 214-3047. The garden is located directly behind the dorms at MCC.

Kite For Sail

Dan Tracy of Kite for Sail has developed a system for powering boats by harnessing the wind. I went out sailing with Dan just last weekend again and had a blast. His company is really pushing the technology to provide a more sustainable way for shipping and also recreating for the hobby users. What sets this apart from standard sailing is the kite technology which is far easier to set up and maintain as well as control. In addition it is able to capture more of the winds energy by being higher up and by altering the angle of attack as they call it. Dan was recently featured on KITV4 News!
